Most people hate geese because at some point in childhood a goose bit them. Or even as an adult they have had a goose beating. Sadly, geese really deserve their bad reputation. I myself have had the crap beaten out of my by a pair of Roman Geese. So, I can appreciate why people do not like them.
But none of that applies to the Giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese. These geese are the nicest animals ever invented. They are big, lumbering, kind souls. I have given a pair of goslings to people who have hand raised them and now have bird like dogs that sit at the back door waiting for their people to come out and play with them. They are everything hateful geese are not. If you are willing to give geese a try, this would be the breed.
I collected mine through a variety of sources. I ordered two eggs from ebay and they both hatched; I ordered one pair from Metzer; another pair from a hatchery I forget; and then got half a dozen from Chapel View Farm. Chapel View has the finest big Butt geese to be found, my experience.
Anyhow, I think because my base flock is so unrelated I have incredible fertility. Last year I set the first 100 eggs hoping to get 40 goslings and ended up with 90. Oops. Things like that happen around here. If I set the eggs, they hatch. And, I am by no means an incubator fanatic. I put them in, turn it on, and hope for the best. If I can have that kind of hatch rate, you can have that kind of hatch rate.
I will be accepting pre-orders starting January 1. If you want to get on the wait list, do so early. If you live anywhere nearby or a driving distance, I am happy to hatch some goslings for you. Im not quite up for shipping, but, if you can get here, you can reserve some goslings.
If you want adult birds, I have them for sale. You can contact me through this website or email to ddsindc@gmail.com

I saw WHITE Giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese in Europe and fell in love with them. They were just stunning creatures. As ever, importation was not an option so I asked a breeder in Spain how I might make them. Turns out they made theirs, so, I knew it was possible. I mated my biggest Giant Dewlap gander to some Emden Geese and produced my first generation of fat Embeds. This cross is used to make good meet birds, or it was in the last century, and I can see why. Anyhow, I kept breeding the white birds back to big Toulouse. My flock is now 15/16 Giant Dewlap Toulouse and 1/16 Emden. I did not make it to pure white. I still get flecks of grey in the hatches and this year I got a saddle back! But, they are pretty white. If anyone wants to work on making pure white Giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese, I will have eggs for them.
I investigated the Russian Kholmogorskoye goose and based on what I have found out from the Russians, it's pretty much an east meets west story. They were made by crossing Giant African Geese + Giant Dewlap Toulouse geese. So, if you are interested in making some American Kholmogorskoye geese, I would take some of my white Giant Dewlap Toulouse Geese and mate them to some Giant Africans. It might take a few generations but I bet you will get there.
I will be taking reservations for eggs starting January 1. As I have said, if you live driving distance, I am happy to hatch you some goslings.
